NATURAL VITAMINS
Characteristics to Remember

1. Natural Vitamins must NOT be segregated, separated or isolated. The most that can be done to increase their potency without disturbing their Natural BALANCE is to evaporate the moisture and remove the fiber so as to conserve space and temporarily render the vitamins inactive by removing the moisture. They can be kept by drying as we dry fruits, beans, corn, etc.

2. NATURAL FOOD VITAMINS are never highly concentrated. Nature is interested in BALANCE, NOT POTENCY. This means that to get higher than normal potency NATURAL VITAMINS MUST BE CONSUMED IN QUANTITY. Synthetic and Crystalline vitamins lend themselves to high potency concentrations in a few small pills. Naturals must be used in quantity as you would food. You don't count the peas or beans you had for dinner. Then why count the tablets in the handful of Springreen you take?

3. Natural vitamins build nutritionally -- synthetics medically.

4. Natural vitamins build slowly but exceedingly well as NATURE always does - Synthetics give a quick spasmodic spurt that may not be lasting.

5. Naturals are NON-TOXIC in any quantity -- Some synthetics may be very toxic. They are not a food, therefore should be used only under Doctor's supervision.

6. Naturals are much more expensive because they are perishable and every precaution must be taken to preserve their life and integrity. Synthetics are "dead", inert, cheaper and present much less expensive handling problems. As with any inert material, greater mass production creates cheaper bargain prices.

WHEN COMPARING NATURAL CONCENTRATES with SYNTHETICS

Just remember:
1. "There was never anything in the world that some man could not make a little worse and sell a little cheaper. Those people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey." - John Ruskin

2. "The bitter memory of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of cheap price is forgotten."

3. "GOD made NATURALS - MAN made SYNTHETICS. In which will you put your trust?

How to Read Labels

Probably never in history has so much money been spent on the advertising and the purchasing of any merchandise with so little knowledge of the product itself on the part of either the seller or the buyer as has been spent on 'VITAMINS'. Over $20,000,000,000 is now being spent annually and neither the purchasers nor those in the long chain of jobbers, wholesalers, retailers, over the counter dispensers, or direct to consumer salesmen know the difference between a SYNTHETIC, a CRYSTALLINE or a truly NATURAL vitamin. They know nothing of how they are made, their characteristics, their attributes, their sources, their advantages or disadvantages, nor how to tell one from the other by reading the label. We want our Springreen Distributors and customers to know exactly what they are buying and selling.

Legend:

(1) NATURAL - As far as our literature is concerned NATURAL means vitamins as found in natural foods untampered with in any way that might change their molecule - their biological or biochemical combinations, or their action - this usually means that only the fiber and moisture are removed.

All labels of truly NATURAL food concentrates should indicate the exact food source from which the vitamin is obtained.

(2) CRYSTALLINE - Means it had a natural food as its original source but was treated with various high powered chemicals, solvents, heat and distillations to reduce it down to one specific pure crystalline vitamin or amino acid and hence is no longer natural. It no longer has its synergists, that is, its enzymes, co-enzymes, minerals, mineral activators, and covitamin helpers. It has been reduced to a pure simple crystalline powder with one definite simple chemical structure. In this form it is but one single phase of the complete VITAMIN COMPLEX.

(3) SYNTHETIC - Means that in the laboratory the scientist has reconstructed the exact structure of the CRYSTALLINE molecule by "putting together" or chemically combining the same molecules from other known sources. Chemically, therefore, there is no difference between the Synthetic and the Crystalline. As a vitamin there is no difference between the two. The crystalline may have a slight advantage in that it is difficult to reduce any natural product to an absolutely pure state and any impurities would be synergists" hence give a little added value to the Crystalline over the Synthetic. On the label for either Synthetic or Crystalline only the chemical name of the single vitamin is usually given. Legally it is not necessary to give the source from which the synthetic chemical is derived.

ITEMS MOST FREQUENTLY FOUND IN FOOD SUPPLEMENTS
VITAMINS
NOTE: Only a few Crystallines are now used since Synthetics are much cheaper and legally are considered equal in value.

Item If source is given as: Type of Vitamin It Is
VITAMIN A COMPLEX
Vitamin A From Springreen Natural
Vitamin A Fish Oils Natural
Vitamin A Acetate Synthetic
Vitamin A Palmitate *Synthetic
VITAMIN B COMPLEX
Vitamin B1 From Yeast, Springreen, etc. Natural

Vitamin E Alphatocopherol *Crystalline & Synthetic
VITAMIN K COMPLEX
Vitamin K From alfalfa, Springreen Natural
Vitamin K Menadione Synthetic (Crystalline costs 60 times the synthetic)
NOTE: The synthetics are so much cheaper that commercially they have actually replaced most crystallines. Only a few crystallines are commercially used, such as: (1) B 12; (2) Alpha tocopherol (partially replaced); (3) Inositol.
NOTE 2: Legally a crystalline can be called natural because it was isolated from a natural product. But it is not Natural as herein described.

*  Available both ways - crystalline seldom used.
** While most of it comes from corn it is not a crystalline in our book because it is not just a reduction but is chemically changed.

MINERALS - Characterized as to:

INORGANIC: The minerals as found in soils, rocks and chemicals. Some are obtainable in pure crystal powder while others are unstable alone so are available only as a salt, i.e.. combined with something else.

ORGANIC: These are minerals that have been organized by photosynthesis from the action of sun, soil, air and water into plant life and indirectly into animal tissue.

NOTE:  If label reads "from a specific food" then an analysis of that food was made to ascertain percent of that mineral-hence NATURAL.
Item Source Type Remarks
Calcium Bone Meal Organic Has low potency and takes large quantities, hence very little used by most concerns, therefore usually only a pinch is mixed with the higher potency inorganic d-calcium or tri-calcium phosphate, but natural claims can be made from the small amount of bone meal used.
Calcium Di-calcium phosphate Inorganic Chemicals which have high potency
Calcium Tri-calcium phosphate Inorganic in small quantity, hence extensively used.
Phosphorus (see calcium) Inorganic (Same as phosphates, above)
Iodine Seaweed (Kelp) Organic Edible by both man and animal.
Iodine Potassium iodide Inorganic A chemical combination.
Iron Ferrous gluconate Inorganic Inorganic iron combined with ornstarch- dextrose, hence partly organic and partly inorganic.
Iron Ferrous suiphate Inorganic A chemical

Copper Copper gluconate Inorganic Copper combined with cornstarch.
Magnesium Magnesium phosphate Inorganic A chemical.
Potassium Potassium borate Inorganic A chemical.
Manganese Manganese glycerophosphate Inorganic A chemical.
Manganese Manganese Citrate Inorganic Manganese combined with organic citric acid
Boron Potassium borate Inorganic A chemical.
Cobalt Cobalt Sulphate Inorganic A chemical.
Fluorine Edible bone phosphate Organic Fluorine (if source not given) Usually an inorganic chemical.
Molybdenum Molybdenum trioxide Inorganic Chemical.
Nickel Nickel sulphate Inorganic Chemical.
Zinc Zinc sulphate Inorganic Chemical.
Zinc Zinc acetate Inorganic Chemical.

The above is correct to the best of our knowledge and understanding and with full recourse to and study of a medical dictionary, "Vitamins In Medicine" by Bicknell & Prescott, "Chemistry and Physiology of Vitamins" by H. R. Rosenberg, Sc.D., and the " 1952 Edition of New and Nonofficial Remedies" which is issued under the Direction and Supervision of The Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry of the American Medical Association.

COMMENT:

Every factor needed in human nutrition that has ever been isolated by scientific man from any vegetation is found in Springreen Hence on our label we state "as found in Springreen or as analyzed from Springreen" or as "naturally occurring in Springreen." Our potencies are therefore infinitesimal compared to Synthetics or Crystallines. BUT they are in NATURES OWN BALANCE, they carry their own Synergists (Minerals, Mineral Activators, Enzymes, Coenzymes, Amino acids, Vitamins, Etc., all closely balanced and bound together by Nature. They are "alive" and ready to function without chemically upsetting Nature's Delicate BALANCE in the human body. They are not a man made chemical drug.
